8th LCS-RNet Annual Meeting in Wuppertal, Germany

The 8th Annual Meeting of the LCS-RNet will take place from 6 - 7 September 2016 at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal, Germany. The event aims to discuss decarbonision concepts and their financial instruments while also generating useful impulses for German climate politics and contributing to a beneficial framework for a global energy transition.Read moreMinimize

The 2016 annual meeting is of particular importance in the context of the follow-up to the COP21 in Paris, as well as the G7 meeting in Elmau, G7 EMM in Toyama and in the preparation process for the IPCC’s AR6It will contribute to setting the global transformation agenda towards full decarbonisation and particularly discuss the future role of science.

The meeting will address:

  • How to trigger the non-linear transformation towards full decarbonisation (by2050) as targeted by G7 (Elmau) COP21 (Paris) and G7EMM (Toyama)
  • How a “new deal” for green growth could be designed and achieved
  • How to explore and exploit the synergies between the Sustainable Development Goals and low carbon societies
  • The new role of science in the context of the SDGs and climate policy after Paris

The LCS-RNet (Low Carbon Society Research Network) was established in 2008 by the G8 Conference of Environmental Ministers and comprises independent scientific institutions, whereby Germany is represented by the Wuppertal Institute. The network aims at generating recommendations for the development towards a low-carbon society as well as supporting the exchange between industrial and emerging countries.

This year’s conference is dedicated to the improvement and dissemination of knowledge on methods, policies and technologies for increasing the sustainability of development by de-coupling growth from natural resources and replacing them with knowledge based economy, taking into account its economic, environmental and social pillars. 

We will present a study entitled „Small scale energy projects in the global South - what makes them suitable and what are their (mid-term) impacts? - Results of a Post-Evaluation“.

SEPS CALL: Energising Development Through Knowledge Exchange

With its 'SEPS Knowledge Exchange' scheme, WISIONS facilitates the mobilisation of knowledge and expertise among energy practitioners and other stakeholders in the field of sustainable energy technologies in the 'Global South'. New Call for SEPS Knowledge Exchange proposals 2016 aiming to mobilise knowledge and expertise for decentralised renewable energy solutions.

This new call for proposals addresses both focus regions of WISIONS – Latin America and the Caribbean, and South/South East Asia. Proposals for SEPS Knowledge Exchange 2016 – LAC & SE/S Asia should allow for interaction between practitioners with significant experience in the implementation of decentralised renewable energy solutions in the target region(s). 

SEPS Knowledge Exchange activities should relate to one or more of the following focus areas:

  • Capacity-building
  • South-South mutual learning
  • Practice-to-policy exchange
  • Advocacy and awareness-raising activities
  • Other 
The submitted SEPS Knowledge Exchange proposals should meet a set of criteria (see full list of criteria and application procedure here). Only those proposals that follow the proposed application procedure will be considered in the validation process.

Deadline for submission of applications is 17th October 2016, 16:00 (CET).
