SEPS Exchange: Technology transfer in South-East Asia
The objective of this recent SEPS exchange is to transfer knowledge about a low-cost, easy-to-assemble pico-hydro turbine prototype, developed by the Sri Lankan organization Janathakshan, to other member organizations of the Micro-Hydro Empowerment Network (HPNet).
The pico-hydro turbine prototype was originally deployed in 45 Sri Lankan villages and over 85% of these are still functional. The turbine casing is made of concrete, while the runner is constructed from aluminum.
A workshop with members of the Hydro Empowerment Network, conducted by Green Empowerment started recently. This workshop includes on-site training in turbine design and manufacture, assembly and installation.
