Enhancing Productive Biogas Use in Agricultural Livestock Activities in Mexico
News from WISIONS posted on October 27th, 2014
Four project sites were selected by IRRI during the evaluation phase, based on the criteria of stock size (max. 180 swine or 80 cattle), energy use (farms that depended on non-renewable energy) and waste treatment (farms that used only basic waste treatment systems).
The first anaerobic biodigester was installed in July 2014 at one of the farms in the municipality of Rio Coatlán, followed by two others at farms in the municipalities of Huamantla and Soyaniquilpan in August and the fourth in the municipality of Tlayacapan in September.
It is anticipated that the waste treatment systems will be completed and ready for operation by the end of December 2014.

Meet the WISIONS team at the conference „Energy and Water solutions in sub-Saharan Africa" at Lake Constance, Germany
News from WISIONS posted on October 9th, 2014
Today, 1.3 billion people worldwide are living without access to electric grid-based energy. In Africa alone, about 70% of the total population relies on fossil fuel based systems for lighting such as kerosene lamps and diesel generators. Rural areas of developing countries without a proper grid access also often lack access to other basic needs such as potable water and educational opportunities.
Against this background, the WISIONS team will present a keynote lecture on "Decentralised solutions for renewable energies and water in developing countries". The conference is being organized in the framework of the project "Solar Energy for rural Kenya" supported by the European Union. This project emerged from one of the projects supported by SEPS, which aimed to replace kerosene lights for night fishing by introducing energy hubs to power sustainable lighting systems at Lake Victoria, Kenya.
