The event was organised by the Colombian chapter of the Foundation for Tropical Sustainable Agriculture with the support of the Red de Biodigestores para Latinoamerica y El Caribe (RedBioLAC) and WISIONS.
The participants strengthened their knowledge, examined new technological advances, identified relevant topics for future research and discussed medium and long-term prospects for the dissemination of biogas technologies and other biomass energy technologies in Colombia. One of the outcomes is the possible inclusion of these technologies in future government programmes.
The participants agreed to form the "Red Colombiana de Energía de la Biomasa“ (RedBioCOL) as a national chapter of the RedBioLAC, with the goal of generating  opportunities for key actors, i.e. farmers, agricultural service providers, academics and researchers among others, to participate in the development and diffusion of the technologies.

Experiences from other international (e.g. US-Aid, World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank) and national (e.g. the Colombian Institute for Electrification of Non-Connected Areas (IPSE)) organisations were presented. The importance of integrating local perspectives, knowledge and capacities in the different phases of a project or programme was a recurrent topic in most of the presentations.

WISIONS Shares Lessons Learnt with Young Students

News from WISIONS posted on January 12th, 2013

Young international students recently had the chance to take a closer look at the lessons learnt from WISIONS experiences of implementing sustainable energy solutions in developing countries. 22 young students attended the ‘Development Education Programme' organised by STUBE-Rheinland in Bonn between the 12th and 14th October 2012.Read moreMinimize

The group was not only diverse in terms of nationality (students came from Nepal, Iran, Cameroon, Morocco, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Brazil and India) but also in terms of the academic fields represented (engineering, economics, social sciences and law).

WISIONS presented an overview of existing options for meeting basic energy-related needs. The presentation highlighted the technical, social, environmental and economic challenges that are often faced by the implementation of community-based energy projects. Experiences of SEPS projects illustrated how these challenges can be addressed in practice. Following the presentation the students had to apply the concepts they had learnt by developing hypothetical project concepts that met the main sustainability criteria for WISIONS.

The activities provoked keen interest from the students on topics that were of particular relevance in their home countries. For WISIONS it was inspiring to have the chance to share its vision and experiences with young people who would probably become development practitioners in the near future.
